using flags for follow-up

The beauty of having all your communications in a single thread is that you always have the context of every message. That includes text, voice, and video. We call it Persistent Communications, and we think you’ll love it.

Sometimes, though, you might need to put a virtual sticky note on a particular message, file, or interaction. That’s where Flags come in. You’re probably familiar with flagging email messages. The flag function in illumy works pretty much the same, except better (naturally 😉). For one thing, you can flag anything—no matter if you’re the one who sent it or if you’re the recipient. Plus, you can easily see a list of your flagged items all at once, for a quick and easy to-do list.

flagging in a web browser

To flag any interaction (message, shared file, voice or video call, etc.):

  1. Hover your mouse over the specific message, file, etc., you want to flag.
  2. When it’s highlighted, a small pop-up menu appears at the top right edge of the highlighted area.
  3. Click the gray Flag icon in that menu.
  4. A small rectangle with a red flag appears next to the item. To remove the flag, click that rectangle.

to quickly find flagged items

Right now, this capability is currently available to illumy members using a web browser. But it will definitely be part of our mobile experience very soon.

  1. In the Widgets panel on the right, you’ll see three modules:
    • Files >
    • Flags >
    • Calendar >
  2. Click the Flags module to expand it. Every item or message in this message thread that you’ve flagged is displayed. (Note that the Flags module will stay expanded during your current browser session but will close again once you sign out of illumy.)
  3. Hover over an item, and then click the View Message icon (a blue arrow) to go to the flagged item within the main conversation thread.
  4. You can un-flag an item in this module as well. Just click on the red Flag icon that appears at the upper right of the message.

flagging in the mobile app

To flag any interaction (message, shared file, voice or video call, etc.):

  1. Find the specific message, file, etc., you want to flag.
  2. In Android, touch and long-press the item, and a popup menu with more options will display. In iOS, swipe left to access the “More” menu.
  3. Select “Flag” from the pop-up menu that appears at the bottom of your screen.
  4. A small, red flag icon appears next to the item.
  5. To remove a flag:
      1. On iOS, swipe left and select “More.” In the pop-up menu, select “Remove Flag,” or click “Cancel” if you change your mind.
      2. On Android, long-press the flagged message. In the pop-up menu, select “Remove Flag,” or click “Cancel” if you change your mind.

So, go on! Fly your flag—or at least flag your messages and other items in illumy! 🚩
