mission critical: 4 ways illumy delivers more nonprofit impact

illumy is designed from the ground up to be fast, fluid, and fun. Our vision is messaging and email that’s so easy, even your grandparents 👵👴 can hop on and start illumy-ing.

But just because illumy is a B2C (business-to-consumer) app, that doesn’t mean you can’t use it in more professional settings.

Here’s how illumy’s totally new, totally secure email and messaging can serve nonprofits.

Big groups

illumy supports big chat groups — like, really big. 😳 The new-and-improved illumy 3.0 platform will allow you to create groups of any size.

(We tested the platform to 10,000 users and it performed flawlessly.)

illumy groups can help you coordinate volunteers, staff, partners, donors, or any other stakeholders you may have. They’re the perfect tool for keeping everyone in the loop, or branching off 🌵 from a big conversation to a smaller one.

Seamless cloud connections

Being tethered to your desk is out. Anywhere-in-the-world mobility is in.

All of your illumy conversations live in the cloud 🌩 and go where you do. That means even if you switch between devices, your conversation threads stay up to date.

Plus, illumy works on even sub-3G speeds. If your nonprofit work takes you out in the field — or far afield 🚀 — you’ll still be able to stay in touch.

Here’s a breakdown of the speeds you’ll need for voice-and-video on illumy.

Voice calling = 150Kbps symmetric (can operate from 50Kbps-200Kbps)

Video calling = 1.5Mbps symmetric (can operate from 500Kbps-3Mbps)

Encryption

Your nonprofit might not be subject to the same data protection standards as a financial firm. But we still cover your data security to bank-grade levels.

All illumy chats are protected 🔒 with SSL and end-to-end 256-bit encryption. And our privacy policy is clear: your illumy data won’t be shared ❌ for commercial use.

Contrast the illumy approach with old-school email, which must traverse the public (unencrypted) internet. illumy chats are simply a more secure way to connect and share.

Message flagging

Flags are a simple way to keep track of your most important messages. Just tap or click the flag icon 🚩 on any illumy message to store it for later.

(On the web app, you hover over the message to bring up the flag icon. On mobile, you tap the three dots on the right side of the message.)

Flagged messages appear in the Flags widget on the right side of your illumy window (you may need to click the left-arrow button to activate the widget slider). For key information you want to return to, like an important data point or a question you need answered, the Flags widget is your best friend.

File sharing + viewing

File sharing is getting a major upgrade in illumy 3.0. 💪

1️⃣ First, we’re expanding the file size limit to 500MB, and total storage on i2 plans to 2GB. That’s enough for a few thousand .pdfs or Microsoft Office files.

2️⃣ Second, we’re enhancing how illumy handles visual media. You’ll be able to view and interact with photos and videos in a super-fast, fluid, and intuitive way. It’s a vastly better experience than other messaging apps deliver.

And even browsing for files will be easier with the Files widget (located in the widget panel next to the Flags widget). You’ll be able to interact with your files from within the widget, or navigate to the message that contains the file.

Are you using illumy to manage your profesional groups? We’d love to hear how — share it with us on social media @illumyinc.
